We’re looking for a

3D Character Artist

Coatsink is looking for a highly motivated and talented 3D Character Artist to join the team in Sunderland, UK. In this role, you will work closely with our wider art team.

As a 3D Character Artist at Coatsink, you will be expected to work within strict timeframes for project deliveries, working within a team, and reporting to your Art Director. You will possess a general deep understanding of form, color, silhouette, and structure for both 2D and 3D art.

3D Character Artist


  • Model and texture a range of characters across many different projects according to the design, art style, and overall vision.

  • Create and assemble characters that deliver clean and optimized low polygon models with efficient UV layouts

  • Your characters should demonstrate suitable topology with regard to animation and game engine implementation while staying within the technical and design specifications of the current project

  • Be an active participant in team art discussions, critiques and reviews

  • Build game content in Unity 


  • Relevant degree in Games Art or equivalent

  • Highly proficient in a leading 3D modelling package

  • Ability to create compelling, 3D characters, according to the game style and art direction

  • Ability to create both organic and hard surface assets

  • Strong texture skills towards characters and character assets

  • Versatility towards working with different artistic styles and processes

  • Deliver clean and optimised low polygon models, and efficient UV layouts

  • A clear understanding of suitable topology with regard to animation and game implementation

  • A strong understanding of form, structure, silhouette, and colour

  • Work in a collaborative spirit both within the team and with other departments, such as Concept Art, Animation, Game Design, etc

  • Willingness to learn and adapt following the needs of a project


  • Two years’ experience in the games industry

  • 3DS Max experience

  • Strong Photoshop skills

  • Experience with Zbrush and equivalent 3D painting software

  • A good sense of anatomy, and proportions

  • Ability to create high-quality assets under heavy technical constraints, (i.e. assets for mobile)
