Lead Artist

Coatsink is looking for a highly motivated, talented and experienced Lead Artist to join the team in the North East of England, UK.

Please note: This post is only open to UK based applicants due to the nature of the position which requires availability for in-person meetings.

The Lead Artist will drive the art production and pipelines of our upcoming projects. They should have a thorough knowledge of the game development process, work well and communicate with designers and other disciplines in a collaborative team oriented development process.

Skills & Requirements

  • 5+ years professional game production experience
  • 1+ year experience in a leadership role
  • Shipped at least 1, medium to large scale, 3D title for PC and/or console
  • Lead by example to set the Environment Art quality level, and technical best practices
  • Has a strong understanding of environment asset creation and modular kit-based construction methodologies.
  • Managing the day-to-day priorities of the Art Team on a project and ensuring these line up with milestones, and target deadlines
  • Define art production budgets, pipelines, workflows and processes
  • Work with production to determine asset requirements, scheduling needs, and integration processes
  • Be a go-to person for expert knowledge of modeling, texturing and optimization of assets through next-gen pipeline
  • Work with Art and Game Directors to define and shape the overall look and feel of the game
  • Give direction to the team, iterate on look and feel and lead review of other artists’ work
  • Work closely with the design team to detail the goals and functionality of game levels and needed environment props
  • Work with technical artists and engineers in the development and streamlining of tools and processes
  • Strong understanding of modular level creation methods
  • Inherent ability to bring out the best in people around you remains positive, and motivate your team
  • Expert in time management, verbal and written communication skills


  • Strong knowledge of Substance painter
  • Experience with top down isometric games
  • Keen interest in stylised, pbr asset creation
  • Experience with outsourcing and/or collaboration with external studios
  • Strong knowledge of traditional art
