Senior Game Designer

Coatsink is looking for a highly motivated and talented Senior Game Designer to join the team in Sunderland, UK. You will work closely with our other Senior Game Designers.

As a Senior Game Designer at Coatsink, you are responsible for crafting and maintaining the design of a game, ensuring that the game’s content is built closely to that design and at a high standard. The Senior Game Designer will communicate primarily with the design team and with seniors from other disciplines, to ensure the whole team understands the project’s design.

Senior Game Designer


  • Creating and updating the design of a game to achieve the project’s core pillars
  • Taking ownership of, and championing the project’s design direction, both internally and externally
  • Keeping all members of the team up to date on the project’s design
  • Managing a team of designers on a project, prioritizing tasks and streamlining development processes
  • Working with team leads to ensure the development team have the resources needed to build the game
  • Reviewing all design work to ensure it meets the project’s design
  • Ensuring all design documentation is kept organized and up to date
  • Communicating with external collaborators on a project to keep them up to date on the project’s design 


  • Excellent Unity experience
  • Experience developing for VR
  • Basic programming/scripting knowledge
  • Competent writing ability
  • Basic art skills
  • Strong understanding of level design, UX design, and game design fundamentals
  • Ability to work in both small and large teams
  • Strong passion for playing video games across a wide variety of genres, and analyzing what makes them good/bad
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong understanding of games market and target audience
  • Confident IT skills
  • Innovative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changes and new problems
  • Ability to turn constructive criticism into positive or improved results
  • Experience leading a team on a released title
  • Experience working within project management methodology such as SCRUM 


  • Designer role on a released unity-based game
  • Competent/Excellent Programming/scripting knowledge
  • Excellent writing skills and a passion for storytelling
  • Competent/Excellent Art skills
  • Relevant university degree
  • Experience using Atlassian software (Jira, Confluence etc)
